Did today's wod on outside track: 4 rounds= 400 m Run and 50 squats Time: 12:31 (A PR by a minute!) This wod sucked more than I remembered. Wasn't feeling very good today, I'm surprised at my time. After the run I did some free standing Handstand pushups on the grass. I did about 5, it felt great! (not in a row) But I was able to hold my handstand for about 10 seconds. I encourage all of you to practice some HSPU on some even grass. It is less intimidating if you fall, and you can get a pretty good grip with your fingertips for balance. Hope you all had a great Saturday. Have a great rest day tomorrow and I will see you Monday morning. -Natalie
Nice Natalie! You must have been hitting some pretty good times on your runs. It's official with this post. I'm pathetic. I haven't worked out in three days cuz my cold has my throat and sinuses feeling like hamburger but I'm still on here posting just cuz I missed it. Dying to hit a wod but you know how your throat feels after a wod when you don't have a cold. I'm afraid it will just make the cold stick around longer. Trainers, any thoughts on that? If it's just a sinus cold I usually work through it. Makes every thing "flow" right out (yummy) but never tried it when the throat was feeling it. So if anybody has any thoughts on that let a wimp know would ya! :) One more thing, Tessa at the CF summer games 2009! Right on!! Get some woman!
Will- REST! Don't push yourself. Your body needs rest when you are sick. If you try to workout hard you make prolong your illness. You need good sleep and downtime. Your body repairs and grows when you sleep. To get technical- during sleep the growth hormone is released, during stage 3 and 4, just prior to REM sleep. This is the time your body repairs itself for the next day. The better quality of sleep, the more growth hormone will be released during your sleep. This is why sleep is so important especially when your sick, but also to repair your body after a workout and to be ready to do it again the next day. You can see why sleep is also important for kids. Oh, and here is a Zone diet plug- to maximize growth-hormone release during sleep you should eat a Zone-favorable snack before you go to bed. :) You and Mandy take care of yourselves. You will be back at it soon! - Natalie
Also, human growth hormone is important because it is the most powerful fat-burning hormone in the body. It burns fat, and it allows you to build new muscle at the same time. This hormone is also released during anaerobic exercise (Crossfit wods). It's job is to repair the microdamage done to muscle tissue during anaerobic exercise. Very important hormone. Just another reason why Crossfit is the best!!! Now that you have had your microbiology lesson for the day, go to bed!
Wow, now that was an answer! I kind of figured that would be the response. But you know how it is. You start to wonder if you're just being a wimp. :) Thanks for the quick response, the in depth explanation and easing my wimp fears. You rock Natalie! Now I'm off to bed. Hope to see some of you on Tuesday.
