Weight Lifting Shoes 101 http://www.exrx.net/WeightTraining/Weightlifting/WeightliftingShoes.html

Here is some advice on weighlifting shoes from our good friend Juli (U'i), who trains with Mark Rippetoe himself.
"If someone is lifting heavy and properly, they need squat shoes. Depending on the squishiness of the heel of the running shoe they're lifting in, they are giving up kg's in the lift. If they are lifting for PR's, they are missing them due to the compression that's happening at the bottom.
The weightlifting shoe provides a larger surface area to support the rest of your body, the wooden bottom provides the stability the running shoe does not.
Athlete's who want big weight need the proper equipment; barbell, weights, chalk, and weighlifting shoes."
This website has good prices on weightlifting shoes...http://www.vsathletics.com/section.php?xSec=9

Has anybody tried the shoes on the site that was posted. Do you need to buy big or small or what. Rockey I remember you saying you got some recently. I thought it was for the price that vsathletics quotes but I couldn't find which day you posted it on. Was it this place or another one. What did you think as far as sizing? Thanks to anybody with some input. Think I'm gonna buy some in the next few weeks.

I just fixed the link to Weightlifting 101. It works now. It's a good article. Will- I will have Jason post about his shoes. He loves them and he got them at VS Athletics.
Also- this Saturday in Sandy there is a weightlifting competition going on. It would be fun to go watch. I will post the info. tomorrow.
Get better soon Mandy!

I am a 9 or 9 1/2 so and I buy a 10 in running shoes. I got a 9 1/2 in my lifting shoes and they fit fine. I wouldn't go smaller.

Jason

I got mine through vs athletics

Have a great Squat Clean day everyone. I want to see some weights posted!

Today was a real bummer. I did:

400 meter run
50 bar dips
400 meter run
50 chest to the floor push-ups
400 meter run
50 head touch the ground handstand push-ups

43:27

My time and everything was going really good until the HSPU. My arms were so fatigued from the push-ups and the dips, I had no strength left it took a lot of resting and kipping on those to finish. It was a lot tougher WOD than I thought.

Wow, let's hope that the WOD Jason did doesn't come up any time soon! YIKES! I was going to take a rest day today but just couldn't do it :) Jeff and I were gonna go up to SLC last night to spend the night but all the rooms were booked, we waited too long! So we just slept in and then went to the Orem Rec. I did some interval running, made it up, don't really know if it did me any good but I felt good! I ran a total of a mile and 1/2 doing 2 minute sprints and then 2 minute speed walk breaks in between each sprint. Does that make sense? After that I took what David Chu said yesterday into consideration and did a 20 rep back squat at 95#... then next week I'll do it a couple more times and add 5-10# each time. After that I did 10 135# DL, 50 air squats, 10 HSPU, 20 knees to elbows, 10 pullups (cause the pullup bar at the rec SUCKS and my hands were sweaty and couldn't grip it :) and then I did 20 dips. Didn't do any more than that cause my triceps are still sore form the other WODs this week. I know it's pretty random but there's only so much I could do/come up with at the rec.
Anyhow, now that Will is gonna get some lifting shoes I might have to! Ha ha! I'm sure they make a huge difference.
You sick girls... I hope you get feeling better soon!
We'll see ya'll in the mornin!

Hey, is there a class tomorrow? It's not posted on the schedule yet... :)

I wear a size 14 shoe and bought a size 14 in my lifting shoes. But i have abnormally large feet. MY lifting shoes fit great, but depending on the day i can fit into size 13 shoes as well. There is a chart on the website to help with you people with smaller feet and can get half sizes.

Holy crap Rockey, gotta skin a lotta cow to make size 14 shoes! :) Tired of feeling like a gimp so I did the squat clean wod today. Nice to get some one on one training with Dave. Thanks Dave!Started at 65# to see how the shoulder would feel, it felt good so I jumped up to 95# and went from there. Didn't really keep track of the weights just went up 10# or so each time. Ended up with a max of 155#. Didn't have anything written down for squat cleans from previous wods. Got 155# for Hang power cleans two days before that stupid skateboard attacked me out of the blue. Went for 160# but I wasn't getting a good pop with the hips and was trying to use the arms. So bad form stopped me from getting it. Oh well, I'm just happy that I don't seem to have lost anything in that area and the shoulder felt pretty good.
On another positive note I got my cert all paid off, now I just have to make sure I get the time off.
Tessa- buying weight lifting shoes is just another desperate attempt by me to try keeping up with you. By the way the bar sucks, my hands were sweaty, blah blah blah. Whaaateeevverrr!
Hopefully tomorrows wod is one that I can do with everybody. Hint Hint!!:)

Anonyous #1, or am #2 now, Dunno. Anyway, wasnt able to make it in today due to some training I had today. So I came home tonight and did a running workout. Kinda like Tessa did, but mine was weaker, of course.

3RD's

1 mile run
25 air squats
25 sit-ups
25 push ups

Total run time was 26:39, didnt have a clock going for the whole work out, but it probably ended up being somewhere around 40 min.

It was a real ass kicker with the long runs in there. Probably should of upped the reps on the other stuff, but it just felt good to do something tonight.
