Water or Coke? Very interesting...

WATER
#1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half the world population)

#2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger.

#3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%.

#4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

#5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

#6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

#7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

#8.. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.
Are you drinking the amount of water you should drink every day?

COKE

#1. In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from
the highway after a car accident.

#2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days.

#3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the 'real thing' sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

#4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece
of foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

#5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away corrosion.
#6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

#7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

#8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:
#1 the active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.
#2
To carry Coca-Cola syrup! (the concentrate) the commercial trucks must use a HazardousMaterial place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.
#3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean engines of the trucks for about 20 years!

Now the question is, would you like a glass of water?
Or Coke?

I have been doing no sugar and soda for almost 5 months now. I have never felt better. You don't have to convince me. It is so hard at first but now I don't have a problem missing out. Todays WOD was a killer as always. I was really looking forward to doing it RX. I tore my hand in the first round and after 10 pullups in the 3rd round it had torn more. I then finished the workout leaving the rest of the pullups out. So I am a little disappointed but I still got a great workout in finished in 37:44. Great job 4 pm class.

Are there breaks inbetween rounds? Do we run after each round? Or do we run at the very end?

Nope no breaks between rounds. This is for time. Any 400 meter run that you do will be done at the end of the WOD, which will add time. So you will have to keep track of how many times you stopped. Hopefully you won't have to do a run at all.

Hi kids. I'm in Vegas with my beautiful wife so I'm missing the last wod or two. Too bad, by the looks of them. "Barbara" yesterday and what appears to be "unbroken hell on earth" today. I'll try to Crossfit my way up and down the strip. I could get photos of me doing handstands in front of all the different hotels but I'm old and uncoordinated. We'll just leave it at that. By the way, we're seeing Styx- Foreigner & Kansas. It's hard to kill the old "rocker" that lives inside of me. Of course, that old "rocker" now must share space in my heart with the old obsessed "crossfitter" that now exsists. Thanks to all the trainers for their constant flow of classic rock that energizes the gym. AC/DC gets a different response out of me than Lady Gaga. Less dry heaving...
See you all Monday. Work hard for me and I'll promise to avoid all buffets!

Where did you get that info? Would love to pass it on but need references.

I did Barbara today and with Erick's prodding I finished (which I didn't think I could). I'm happy with my time, and I'm happy for the way I did it. My form may not have been perfect, but I never did singles of anything (thought I'd have to with push-ups). I love the sense of accomplishment. Thanks Erick; thanks CrossFit.

Heh... posted this in the wrong thread. Here it is for real.

Love y'all dearly, and no I don't think soda is particularly good for me, but there's a lot of misinformation about cola in this blog post. Obligatory rebuttal:

http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/acid.asp

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phosphoric_acid#Biological_effects_on_bone_calcium_and_kidney_health

I think the best argument against soda is the high sugar content in normal sodas, and the issues caused by artificial sweeteners in the diet variety. We all know why sugar isn't good for us, here's the issue with artificial sweeteners:

Animal studies have indicated that artificial sweeteners can cause body weight gain. A sweet taste induces an insulin response, which causes blood sugar to be stored in tissues (including fat), but because blood sugar does not increase with artificial sugars, there is hypoglycemia and increased food intake the next time there is a meal. After a while, rats given sweeteners have steadily increased calorie intake, increased body weight, and increased adiposity (fatness). Furthermore, the natural responses to eating sugary foods (eating less at the next meal and using some of the extra calories to warm the body after the sugary meal) are gradually lost.

Amanda said...

Thanks for that Ben. I believe (and I've heard Doctors say) that Diet Coke is worse than regular Coke because of the artificial sweeteners. But let's be honest, it's all bad.

We use water to clean blood off the roadways, sidewalks, ect. Guess I won't be drinking water anymore if it does the same thing to blood on the road that Coke does. (Sometimes I crack myself up)

I am so glad I stopped drinking Diet Coke and graduated to sugar free Rockstars. Looks like that Coke and sugar can really screw you up. By the way Jeremy, I will miss seeing your time on the board. You are a "fire breather".

To be honest, I don't know if that stuff about Coke is true (other than it's high sugar content, which we already know the effects of). I thought I would probably get posts from our cops saying it was B.S. :) I debated on posting the info about the Coke, but thought it was kind of interesting.
But I do know the info about water is true, and that is what I thought was important and wanted to share with you. Kathy, I will find references for you on the importance of drinking 8-10 glasses of water per day. I'm sure I can find several references on the effects of Cola in the body too. Point being, it's artificial, and there is nothing in cola that can be considered "good for you".

Preston.....aha! That's your secret!

Just FYI, if you're getting your info from wikipedia, it might or might not be true. Wikipedia is probably the worst place to find factual information since anyone has the ability to add to, delete from or manipulate the information found on the page. Sorry. I just wanted to throw that out there. We all know Coke and Diet Coke, Mt. Dew, Dr. Pepper, ALL OF IT is bad. I think the trainers were just trying to give us a little motivation to get off the stuff.
